Embarking on a superyacht charter is an exciting adventure for everyone involved, and that includes maternity nurses (MNs) responsible for the youngest members of the charter party.
My name is Ella, and as a seasoned superyacht nanny, I am on a mission to share valuable tips to help those charged with childcare to seamlessly integrate with the crew and contribute to the ultimate guest experience.
Let's dive into my top tips and advice to ensure that family charters are successful for everyone involved.
Know It's Not a Holiday:
First and foremost, it's essential to understand that working on a superyacht during a family charter is not a vacation. It's a highly intensive work environment in which every moment demands top-notch professionalism and 7-star service. This requires a focused mind 24/7 and ‘dropping the ball’ isn’t an option. And, believe me, it’s very normal to feel like you need a holiday after a charter!
Collaborate with the Crew:
The role of a maternity nurse or nanny onboard makes you neither a guest nor a member of the crew. Being considerate to the crew and not adding additional duties to their already busy days goes a long way to fostering good relations and keeping everybody working to the same goal – the best possible guest experience.
Collaborate with the crew by helping wherever possible, avoid making unnecessary mess, make your bed, and respect shared spaces. By working harmoniously, you are contributing to a positive onboard atmosphere.
Share Relevant Information:
With your naturally close connection with the family, you often become privy to their plans and preferences. Use this information to benefit the entire crew by sharing relevant details that can enhance the overall charter experience. Whether it's adjusting itineraries, planning tailored activities, or making restaurant reservations, your insights can contribute to creating a truly spectacular charter.
While sharing information is crucial, always prioritise client confidentiality. Be mindful of what you disclose and ensure that sensitive details are kept private. Striking the right balance between being helpful and maintaining professionalism is key to building trust with both the family and the crew.
Pack Light and Stay Organised:
Packing efficiently is vitally important, as space on a superyacht is always tight and precious. Keep your personal belongings to a minimum, take your shoes off when coming aboard to maintain cleanliness, and always secure items to prevent them from flying around during bumpy passages. A tidy and organised space not only enhances safety but also reflects your professionalism.
